Wedding Photography Questions Answered
Hiring the right wedding photographer can be a daunting task because there are so many. We have compiled a list of some of the most important questions that you should ask a wedding photographer that you are thinking about hiring. This blog post is called Wedding Photography Questions Answered.
What happens if the photographer is ill?
While it is unlikely that the photographer happens to get ill on your wedding day, there is still a chance. This is something that never has happened to me before! It is crucial that the photography studio does something to take care of the situation in case of illness. Chynna Pacheco Photography has three equally skilled photographers that can take over in case someone is sick.
Do you have insurance?
Professional wedding photographers should have the proper insurance for their business. Insurance protects the photographer against equipment theft, but more importantly, it provides liability protection in case Uncle Bob trips over the photographer’s bag and breaks her foot. If a wedding photographer does not have insurance, chances are they are new to the industry or are not taking their business seriously.
Chynna Pacheco Photography carries general business, equipment and liability insurance.
Does the package I am interested in include an assistant?
April is my amazing assistant. I bring her to each and every wedding. April helps me with things that I can not do or have time to do at weddings. She helps with my bags, sets up my lighting equipment, holds my lighting equipment when needed, etc. Some of April’s favorite venues to assist me at are: Bella Collina, Cypress Grove Estate House, Casa Feliz, and the Four Seasons of Orlando.
What kind of equipment do you use? Do you have backups?
Our studio uses top quality camera bodies (Nikon D850’s) along with the finest quality lenses from Nikon. While wedding photographers don’t necessarily need the best of the best, it is important to have a good set of equipment. Make sure your photographer has backup equipment. Nothing would be worse than for the photographer to miss half of your wedding because their camera or lens broke, and they didn’t have a spare. This is probably one of the most important questions to ask, which is why I included them in our Wedding Photography Questions Answered blog post.
Are you familiar with lighting?
Yes!! I think this is so important! Think about this… your reception is super dark, without proper lighting your photos will be dark. It is important to ASK a potential wedding photographer if they can show you samples of receptions they have photographed. Chynna Pacheco Photography uses many off-camera lights to light-up a dark reception. We also use lighting to be CREATIVE!
Should my event last longer than scheduled, will you stay? Is there an extra charge?
Knowing a photographer’s policy on overages is critical. You don’t want to be surprised when your wedding photographer asks for an additional $800 before they release your pictures to you. Even worse, you don’t want your wedding photographer to just pack up and leave when their time is up. We will never just pack up and leave without consulting the Bride and Groom at their wedding. If you need us to stay longer, just tell us. We do charge $250-$300 per additional hour.
Will you be my actual photographer, or will it be one of your associates?
You get me! I photograph EVERY SINGLE WEDDING that I book. I am your lead photographer and that is important for my brand. When you book a wedding photographer, it is important to know WHO is going to photograph your wedding and see samples of THAT PHOTOGRAPHER’S work.
Do you offer videography?
Chynna Pacheco Photography does not offer videography. We SPECIALIZE in photography. I don’t think you would want to hire your wedding planner to also be your cake baker at your wedding, right?
